UK offers following options for higher studies
1.Level 5
  1.Certificate of Higher Education (CertHE) – Equivalent to first year of full honours degree
  2.Higher National Diploma (HND) – Equivalent to first two years of a university course
  3.Diploma of Higher Education – Equivalent to the first two years of a degree
  4.Foundation degree – Equivalent to the first two years of an honours degree
2.Level 6 – Bachelor’s degree -Typically 3 years in length
3.Level 7 – Post Graduate Diplomas and certificates (PGCert / PGDip)
4.Level 7 – Master’s Degree

IELTS REQUIREMENT

Language test scores required for admission vary by institution and by program. Some institutions only look at the overall scores, while othershave cut-offs for scores in each of the four skills sections. Typically, students applying to an undergraduate course need:

  • IELTS scores between 5.5 and 6.5 (usually 6.0), with no band less than 5.5 or 6.0
  • TOEFL (internet-based test, iBT) scores between 60.0 and 90.0 overall
  • PTE Academic score between 50 to 64 overall
  • CAE or CPE score between 169 to 176 overall, with no less than 169 in each category(Stricter Requirements than above form post graduate and professional programs)

STUDY TERMS

Most of the universities start their sessions in September (Autumn or Fall Sessions). Very few Universities/ Colleges offer admissions in Spring (Jan - Apr) and summer (May - August ) sessions.In general, admission deadlines (for September intake) for undergraduate courses are:
  • Mid-October: for course at the universities of Oxford and Cambridge, and for most courses in medicine, veterinary medicine/science, and dentistry.
  • Mid-January: for the majority of courses
  • End of June or Until Course Fills Up*: recommended final deadline for international students to ensure they’ll have enough time to apply for and obtain a visa after receiving their confirmation of acceptance (CAS).

Postgraduate degree courses often have a lengthier application process and stricter applications deadlines.
Postgraduate diploma and certificate programs follow similar deadlines as those outlined above.

STUDY VISA FACTS

  • In the UK, the student visa is sponsored by the institution that the student will be studying at.
  • Visa decisions are generally made within three (3) weeks of attending the biometrics appointment at the visa application center.
  • Students sponsored by a higher education institution for a course at level 7 or above that lasts nine (9) months or more can apply to bring their dependant family members with them to the UK
  • Students enrolled in a full-time program at degree level and above can work for a maximum of 20 hours in any given week. If they are studying below degree level, they may work up to 10 hours in a given week.
  • Students can also work full-time during vacation periods: winter, summer and spring holiday breaks when classes are not in session.
